Researching therapeutic boarding school near Virginia? Have you considered one with a wilderness program built into it as well?
Have you been having difficulty with an angry or unruly teen in your family? Has your troubled teen been kicked out of school, or gotten into trouble with the law? Do you fear for their safety? As a result, you may be considering residential care options; such as a therapeutic boarding school or a wilderness program, which are both vital and proven solutions when dealing with troubled teens.
Even though it is not located in Virginia, we encourage you to check out Shepherd’s Hill Academy. For a generation, Shepherd’s Hill Academy has been guiding troubled boys and girls (in separate sections of our campus), helping them get back on track. We’ve helped hundreds of teens from around the country and from Virginia, serving homes just like yours.
A Hybrid Between a Wilderness Program and a Boarding School, with a Christian Emphasis
Shepherd’s Hill Academy, located in northeast Georgia about 2 hours from Atlanta, is a blend of a therapeutic wilderness program and a Christian boarding school with several forms of therapy, including counseling and equine therapy. Teens attend Shepherd’s Hill Academy from the east coast, south, midwest, western states and west coast, including from New York, Philadephia, Pittsburg, Boston, Atlanta and Virginia.
Shepherd’s Hill Academy is an unashamedly Christ-centered therapeutic boarding school, believing that a change of heart due to a relationship with Jesus is the only genuine and lasting change. We provide a first-rate education, one-on-one mentoring and counseling, equine therapy, and teamwork exercises to help teens develop character and learn to make responsible decisions.
Therapeutic Wilderness Program is the First Phase
The first phase of enrollment at Shepherd’s Hill Academy is a wilderness program, carefully planned to get rid of distractions, build trust and teach teamwork. Being without TV, cell phones and other conveniences allows teens to contemplate more meaningful issues of life. The necessity of collaborating to meet simple daily needs demands coping and teamwork abilities, compelling teens to consider their obligation to others.
The Therapeutic Boarding School and Residential Program is Next
After residents consistently make responsible decisions and take ownership of their development, they shift to the residential program and move to a home on campus. This next step prepares them to transition into society as privileges and personal freedoms are restored.
An Accredited Therapeutic Boarding School with Certified Teachers and Counselors
All throughout the program, teens attend our on-campus, fully accredited junior and senior high school, taught by Georgia certified instructors. We desire students to get caught up and to also prepare for college, so we also incorporate test prep for the SAT and ACT as part of our daily curriculum.
SHA is designed to equip misbehaving teens with the skills needed to become more confident, productive and respectful at home, school, and in the community. We provide a fully accredited junior and senior high school on campus. Our unique combination of wilderness therapy, certified equine program, and first-class therapeutic boarding school is all designed to bring focus back into a child’s life. We also utilize accountability groups, individual behavioral and family counseling.
While our therapeutic boarding school is not located in Virginia, we do have students who come to our school from all over the country, including Virginia. The distance, therapy and the time away from home is an effective opportunity to bring healing to your entire family, so call us at (706) 703-4188 or visit the rest of this site to learn more.
