During the time prior to school every student will eat a nutritious breakfast, complete his morning chores and interact with his community. The morning is the perfect time for your son to set their intentions for the day and prepare for success. By combining a balanced breakfast and healthy mindset students are best equipped for a successful day.

Shepherd’s Hill Academy features an on-site fully accredited academy servings grades 7-12. Classes are instructed by state certified teachers and trained teacher’s aides and assistants. An on-campus principal oversees the programs, curriculum development and ensures each student’s unique needs are met in the classroom. A 5:1 student to staff ratio ensures your child receives the individualized attention required to meet their specific goals.
Lunch will be served during the school day in our main campus cafeteria. Nutritious meals are prepared and served by our campus chef. Shepherd’s Hill Academy works to ensure healthy options for every student in our program.

Break Time

During this time students will transition from the school day to their evening activities. Students will change from their school attire to recreation or work clothes. This break allows students to take a brief rest from their day and to shift gears for a successful evening activity. A snack is also provided to the students during break.

Accountability

Accountability, character development and personal values are an intricate part of Shepherd’s Hill Academy. This time allows students to engage in group discussions, study Scripture, encourage one another’s successes and discover applicable ways to put their therapeutic goals into practice in daily life.
Accountability hour is led by the Direct Care Wilderness Staff as they encourage students, develop mentorship relationships and challenge students in character development.

Group Therapy

Group Therapy sessions are an integral part of the healing process that takes place at Shepherd’s Hill Academy. During this time your daughter, along with her peers, will meet with the Clinical Director to learn a variety of skills. Here teens will learn better healthy coping mechanisms and self-regulation skills. They will also develop interpersonal skills, enabling healthy interactions and relationships with their peers.

Experiential Learning & Projects

Students participate in a variety of recreational activities to challenge them to grow. Activities may include work projects, allowing students to work with their hands and experience the joys of helping others. On-campus activities may also include sports, music, weightlifting, fishing and other creative activities. Off campus recreation includes camping, fishing, attending local festivals, dining out, sporting events, museums, nature hikes and more!

Equine Therapy

Equine Therapy

Students learn important life and relationship skills during their Equine Therapy sessions. Students will select a horse and work with this horse during the program. They will work through 4 program phases; accomplishing tasks and meeting goals in order to proceed through the process. Students are encouraged to reflect on their progress through individual journals, allowing them to recount activities, feelings and thoughts.

Fit Friday

Each Friday, students will participate in Fit Friday. This session allows for physical activity that promotes a healthy wellbeing while offering a fun and engaging time for the students. Activities include weightlifting, cardio, and sports such as basketball or swimming. Fit Friday’s allow the boys to learn healthy peer to peer relationships, engage in team building and encourage one another to grow and succeed.

Starting Friday evening and running through Sunday students learn to cook over an open fire. Students learn how to collect kindling and prepare and fuel a fire that is suitable for cooking. By using primitive tools, students work together to provide dinner for their group in their cook shelter. Here students learn hands on skills, cooperation, and patience. Wilderness staff provide oversight for all campsite meals, ensuring students are receiving healthy meals each day.

Students are given time each day for personal hygiene. During this time students learn to prioritize their personal health and wellbeing. Students practice good hygiene in order to care for their physical body. They learn positive self-concept and healthy ways to develop self-esteem.
Evening chores are also prioritized as students learn personal and group responsibility. Light chores such as washing dishes, sweeping, and cleaning are all a part of the student’s life at Shepherd’s Hill Academy.
Homework is also an evening priority as students work to enhance their learning. Wilderness staff provide oversight, encouraging students to complete their assignments and remain on track to meet their educational goals.

Students are given approximately 30 minutes at the end of each day to relax and unwind. This time is also used for students to process what they have learned and accomplished during their day. This time provides physical, emotional and mental benefits for the student as they transition to a time of rest.

Each Saturday includes on-campus work projects. This time allows students to work with their hands to accomplish a common goal. This time promotes team building, development of leadership skills and an overall joy of a job well done. Work projects also allow the staff to observe how students deal with frustration, tiredness and other negative emotions that the parents may often see at home.
Following each work project students will take time to engage with their community. This peer-to-peer interaction allows for healthy relationship building and character development.
Campsite meals are prepared and served by the students with the assistance of the Wilderness team. Students learn life and wilderness skills as well as team work.

Shepherd’s Hill Academy is a non-denominational faith-based program. Each Sunday our students attend service at a local church. Students travel off-campus, allowing them to interact with community members and learn positive and healthy relationship skills. Shepherd’s Hill Academy attends Grove Level Baptist Church in Maysville, GA. Parents are invited to attend with their students during any visit or conference times.

Sundays are a day of rest at Shepherd’s Hill Academy. Following church services, students will eat lunch and engage in activities at their respective campsites. These activities will be more individualized and personal, as students are given time to relax and reflect on their week while preparing for the new week ahead.
Campsite meals are prepared and served by the students with the assistance of the Wilderness team. Students learn life and wilderness skills as well as team work.

Devotions & Lights Out

Each evening students will have a devotion with their Wilderness Direct Care Staff Members. Staff members share their testimonies, provide a challenge, or introduce a Scripture passage to the students. Students are invited to share in the discussion if desired. The evening provides a backdrop for learning healthy relationship skills with peers, active listening and mutual respect of values and beliefs.
