The first phase of a stay at Shepherd’s Hill Academy is a wilderness program, designed to get rid of distractions, build trust and encourage teamwork. Living without electricity and other conveniences allows teens to contemplate deeper issues of life. The necessity of cooperating to meet basic daily needs involves coping and teamwork strategies, pushing teens to consider how their contribution impacts others.

The Therapeutic Boarding School and Residential Program is Next

Once the teens in our care consistently make responsible decisions and take ownership of their growth, they transfer to the residential program and live in a home on campus. This next step prepares them to transition into society as privileges and individual liberties are restored.

An Accredited Therapeutic Boarding School with Certified Teachers and Counselors

During both parts of the program, teens are enrolled in our on-campus, fully accredited junior and senior high school, taught by Georgia certified instructors. We encourage students to get caught up and to also prepare for college, so we also include test prep for the SAT and ACT as part of our ordinary curriculum.

SHA is designed to equip misbehaving teens with the skills needed to become more confident, productive and respectful at home, school, and in the community. We provide a state accredited junior and senior high school on campus. Our unique combination of wilderness therapy, certified equine program, and first-class therapeutic boarding school is all designed to bring focus back into a child’s life. We also utilize accountability groups, individual behavioral and family sessions for the adolescent.
