Therapeutic Wilderness Program is the First Phase

The early part of enrollment at Shepherd’s Hill Academy is a wilderness program, designed to eliminate distractions, build trust and encourage teamwork. Removing electronics and other conveniences gives teens an opportunity to contemplate more meaningful issues of life. The necessity of cooperating to meet basic daily needs involves coping and teamwork strategies, pushing teens to consider their responsibility to others.

The Therapeutic Boarding School and Residential Program is Next

Once the teens in our care display responsible decisions and take ownership of their growth, they shift to the residential program and move to a home on campus. This phase prepares them to transition into society as privileges and personal freedoms are restored.

An Accredited Therapeutic Boarding School with Certified Teachers and Counselors

During both phases of the program, teens attend our on-campus, fully accredited junior and senior high school, staffed with Georgia certified teachers. We encourage students to get caught up and to also prepare for college, so we also incorporate test prep for the SAT and ACT as part of our ordinary curriculum.

SHA is designed to equip troubled youth with the skills needed to become more confident, productive and respectful at home, school, and in the community. We provide a state accredited junior and senior high school on campus. Our unique combination of a wilderness program, certified equine program, and first-class therapeutic boarding school is all designed to bring focus back into a child’s life.
