Therapeutic Wilderness Program is the First Phase

The first phase of enrollment at Shepherd’s Hill Academy is a wilderness program, designed to remove distractions, build trust and teach teamwork. Removing technology and other conveniences allows teens to contemplate more meaningful issues of life. The necessity of cooperating to meet basic daily needs demands coping and teamwork strategies, compelling teens to consider their obligation to others.

The Therapeutic Boarding School and Residential Program is Next

Once the teens in our care display responsible choices and take ownership of their development, they transfer to the residential program and move to a home on campus. This phase prepares them to transition into society as privileges and personal liberties are restored.

An Accredited Therapeutic Boarding School with Certified Teachers and Counselors

All throughout the program, teens attend our on-campus, fully accredited junior and senior high school, staffed with Georgia certified instructors. We encourage students to get caught up and to also prepare for college, so we also include test prep for the SAT and ACT as part of our ordinary curriculum.

SHA is designed to equip troubled youth with the skills needed to become more confident, productive and respectful at home, school, and in the community. We provide a state accredited junior and senior high school on campus. Our unique combination of a wilderness program, certified equine program, and first-class therapeutic boarding school is all designed to bring focus back into a child’s life. We also utilize accountability groups, individual behavioral and family sessions for the adolescent.
