Researching therapeutic boarding school near Kentucky? Have you considered one with a wilderness program built into it as well?
You’ve likely been struggling with an angry or unruly teen in your family? Has your troubled teen been kicked out of school, or gotten into trouble with the law? Do you fear for their safety? As a result, you may be considering residential care options; such as a therapeutic boarding school or a wilderness program, which are both vital and proven solutions when dealing with troubled teenagers.
While it is not located in Kentucky, we encourage you to check out Shepherd’s Hill Academy. For 20 years, Shepherd’s Hill Academy has been guiding troubled boys and girls (in separate sections of our campus), helping them get back on track. We’ve helped hundreds of teens from around the country and from Kentucky, serving families just like yours.
A Hybrid Between a Wilderness Program and a Boarding School, with a Christian Emphasis
Shepherd’s Hill Academy, located in northeast Georgia about 2 hours from Atlanta, is a blend of a therapeutic wilderness program and a Christian boarding school with several forms of therapy, including counseling and equine therapy. Teens arrive at Shepherd’s Hill Academy from the east coast, south, midwest, western states and west coast, including from New York, Philadephia, Pittsburg, Boston, Atlanta and Kentucky.
Shepherd’s Hill Academy is an unashamedly Christ-centered therapeutic boarding school, believing that transformation due to a relationship with Jesus is the only real and lasting change. We provide a first-rate education, person-to-person mentoring and counseling, equine therapy, and teamwork exercises to help teens build character and learn to make responsible choices.
Therapeutic Wilderness Program is the First Phase
The early part of a stay at Shepherd’s Hill Academy is a wilderness program, intended to eliminate distractions, build trust and teach teamwork. Removing technology and other conveniences allows teens to contemplate more meaningful issues of life. The necessity of working together to meet basic daily needs requires coping and teamwork strategies, pushing teens to consider their obligation to others.
The Therapeutic Boarding School and Residential Program is Next
After a time, when teens consistently make responsible choices and take ownership of their development, they transfer to the residential program and move to a home on campus. This phase prepares them to transition into society as privileges and personal freedoms are restored.
An Accredited Therapeutic Boarding School with Certified Teachers and Counselors
During both phases of the program, teens are enrolled in our on-campus, fully accredited junior and senior high school, taught by Georgia certified instructors. We desire students to get caught up and to also prepare for college, so we also incorporate test prep for the SAT and ACT as part of our regular curriculum.
Shepherd’s Hill Academy is structured to equip misbehaving teens with the skills needed to become more confident, productive and respectful at home, school, and in the community. We provide a state accredited junior and senior high school on campus. Our unique combination of a wilderness program, certified equine program, and first-class therapeutic boarding school is all designed to bring focus back into a child’s life. We also utilize accountability groups, individual behavioral and family sessions for the adolescent.
Though our therapeutic boarding school is not located in Kentucky, we do have students who come to our school from all over the country, including Kentucky. The distance, therapy and the time away from home is an effective opportunity to bring healing to your entire family, so call us at (706) 703-4188 or visit the rest of this site to learn more.
