Therapeutic Wilderness Program is the First Phase

The first phase of enrollment at Shepherd’s Hill Academy is a wilderness program, carefully planned to eliminate distractions, build trust and foster teamwork. Removing TV, cell phones and other conveniences leaves time to contemplate more meaningful issues of life. The necessity of working together to meet basic daily needs requires coping and teamwork abilities, compelling teens to consider their obligation to others.

The Therapeutic Boarding School and Residential Program is Next

After a time, when teens demonstrate responsible choices and take ownership of their development, they transfer to the residential program and live in a home on campus. This phase prepares them to transition into society as privileges and individual freedoms are restored.

An Accredited Therapeutic Boarding School with Certified Teachers and Counselors

During both phases of the program, teens are enrolled in our on-campus, fully accredited junior and senior high school, taught by Georgia certified teachers. We encourage students to get caught up and to also prepare for college, so we also incorporate test prep for the SAT and ACT as part of our daily curriculum.

SHA is designed to equip troubled teens with the skills needed to become more confident, productive and respectful at home, school, and in the community. We provide a fully accredited junior and senior high school on campus. Our unique combination of a wilderness program, certified equine program, and first-class therapeutic boarding school is all designed to bring focus back into a child’s life. We also utilize accountability groups, individual behavioral and family sessions for the adolescent.
