A Hybrid Between a Wilderness Program and a Boarding School, with a Christian Emphasis
Shepherd’s Hill Academy, located in northeast Georgia about 2 hours from Atlanta, is a blend of a therapeutic wilderness program and a Christian boarding school with several forms of therapy, including counseling and equine therapy. Teens come to Shepherd’s Hill Academy from the east coast, south, midwest, western states and west coast, including from New York, Philadephia, Pittsburg, Boston, Atlanta and California.
Shepherd’s Hill Academy is an unapologetically Christ-centered therapeutic boarding school, believing that a change of heart due to a relationship with Jesus is the only true and lasting change. We offer a first-rate education, individual mentoring and counseling, equine therapy, and teamwork exercises to help teens build character and learn to make responsible decisions.
Therapeutic Wilderness Program is the First Phase
The first phase of enrollment at Shepherd’s Hill Academy is a wilderness program, designed to eliminate distractions, build trust and foster teamwork. Removing electronics and other conveniences allows teens to contemplate more meaningful issues of life. The necessity of collaborating to meet basic daily needs involves coping and teamwork strategies, giving teens good reason to consider their responsibility to others.
The Therapeutic Boarding School and Residential Program is Next
Once the teens in our care consistently make responsible decisions and take ownership of their development, they transfer to the residential program and move to a home on campus. This phase gets them ready to transition into society as privileges and individual freedoms are restored.
An Accredited Therapeutic Boarding School with Certified Teachers and Counselors
During both parts of the program, teens are enrolled in our on-campus, fully accredited junior and senior high school, staffed with Georgia certified instructors. We encourage students to get caught up and to also prepare for college, so we also incorporate test prep for the SAT and ACT as part of our regular curriculum.
Shepherd’s Hill Academy is designed to equip troubled youth with the skills needed to become more confident, productive and respectful at home, school, and in the community. We provide a fully accredited junior and senior high school on campus. Our unique combination of a wilderness program, certified equine program, and first-class therapeutic boarding school is all designed to bring focus back into a child’s life.
