Each year Shepherd’s Hill Academy hosts weekend Family Conferences. We offer the Parent/Sibling Conference in the spring and the Parent Conference in the fall. Each conference is packed with family activities, team building events, parent workshops, and much more. Our goal is to cultivate change and allow Christ’s healing to work in each family.

Shepherds Hill Academy 2011 Spring Parent Conference was a wonderful time for all!

Parents reunited with their teens for a nice relaxing time around a campfire on Friday night.  On Saturday, Trace Embry offered parenting workshops on the subject of “Parenting Teens in a Post Modern World.”  Music kids listen to today was one of the main topics.
Also on Saturday, the kids went on a Trust Walk with their parents.  This is where the parents learn to have greater trust in their teen as the parents walk around campus blind folded, and their teen leads the way.  Another event where parents and teens were able to interact was in the Equine Therapy Communication Challenge.  In this event, the residents were resting upon their horses while the parents had to communicate and guide their child through a challenging obsticle course.
On Sunday, the families attended church, and had lengthy visits together.  Parents were also able to participate in another workshop that afternoon.  Lots of good food and many laughs were enjoyed and shared by everyone!

Shepherd’s Hill Academy 2010 Spring Parent/Sibling Conference was a Success!

Approximately 60 Parents and Siblings from across the country gathered together here in Georgia to visit Shepherd’s Hill Academy for the 2010 Annual Spring Parent/Sibling Conference. We praise God for all the many blessings He bestowed upon the event.

Parents and Siblings were given the opportunity to meet new friends. They were able to share the common bond of having a family with a teen in crisis, and could see God’s reign over Shepherd’s Hill Academy. To “kick-off” the weekend, four families participated in a Prayer Walk. The Prayer Walk consisted of these families walking the same paths that the students do every day into the woods to their resident campsites. Upon arriving at the base of the campsites, the families continued to pray for the upcoming events of the weekend.

Shepherd’s Hill Academy, hosted families and siblings in a myriad of events during the weekend. It was a time for God to offer His healing hand to these hurting families. Fun Family Adventures and good food were enjoyed by everyone!

As the weekend came to a close, the Parents were given the opportunity to debrief with the Shepherd’s Hill Academy staff members. Staff members commented on how efficient and effective the conference was. The Parents were in agreement and had the following comments to offer:

  • One Parent said, “I have hope for my son. I know God has a plan for him on His time.”
  • Another Parent commented, “It is so wonderful to hear my daughter get excited about the activities she is involved here. She was excited about visiting a woman in the nursing home. It’s good to hear her get excited about the little things in life.”
  • Also expressed, “This was the best time yet that we have spent with our son.”
  • Both Mother & Father remarked, “Our son is starting to communicate with us again.”
  • A new set of Parents shared, “We can see a difference in our son is just 2 ½ weeks.”

Seeds of God’s truth are being planted every day to the students of Shepherd’s Hill Academy. It’s been said, “No kid leaves Shepherd’s Hill Academy the same as he arrived.” Transformation is what God’s Truth does to the human spirit. As stated in 2nd Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
