It’s sad to me that so many Christian parents seem to be putting more faith in modern psychology than in God’s Word.
This tendency can lead a teen to having no self control. So how can you teach your teen self control?
Though pop psychology most often affirms biblical principles, occasionally it is 180 degrees wrong.
It’s important that you learn how to identify when this occurs.
I had one clear example of this with a family at Shepherds Hill Academy. Our team asked a newly enrolled student why he was writing on paper some very disturbing things about his teacher.
He said his home-town therapist told him he should not repress his thoughts; and, if he couldn’t shout out his true feelings, he needed to write them out.
But, what pop psychology calls repression, God’s Word calls self restraint. A great recipe for creating a child with no self control is to never require it from him.
