Shepherds Hill Academy (SHA) is proud to announce that two students were selected from the program to attend the American Association of Christian Schools (AACS) Youth Legislative Training Conference (YLTC) in Washington, D.C. the week of July 10th-14th, 2017. Conference consideration and applications were given to rising juniors and seniors across the United States. In order to be considered for attendance, students were required to write a short essay concerning why he/she would like to attend YLTC.
Shepherds Hill Academy Co-Founder, Trace Embry, stated, “I’m so proud of our two Shepherds Hill Academy students for being chosen to participate in the Youth Legislative Training Conference in Washington D.C. I would also like to thank the American Association of Christian Schools for hosting these events and choosing to honor SHA and our kids with these awards.” Embry continued, “I’m equally as proud of, and grateful to, our educational staff here at SHA. This is the seventh year in a row that a SHA student has been awarded this trip. Five of those seven years, two SHA students have actually won this free, all expenses paid, week-long trip to meet congressmen, participate in mock senate debates, and tour and learn the inner workings of the Beltway.”
The Youth Legislative Training Conference allows students to view the U.S. legislative process from a biblical perspective. Students will engage in a variety of exciting educational events such as attending a Congressional briefing and professional workshops. Students will also attend a mock Senate simulation where they will debate real world issues.
Students will have the opportunity to tour several historical sites in Washington, D.C. They will visit memorials, Arlington National Cemetery, and more. Students will also meet their State Senators and Representatives during their time in D.C.
Shepherds Hill Academy is proud to have two students selected to attend such an exciting event. Shepherds Hill has had students successfully submit applications for this program since their AACS membership began in 2011. In fact, for the last five out of seven years, two SHA students have been selected to attended the YLTC. For the past seven years, at least one student from SHA has been selected as one of the forty students across the United States chosen for the event.
