Technology is progressing faster than humans can keep up with the safety innovations that are needed to protect the innocent and vulnerable.
For instance, how do you protect your child from pornography when so many kids can access these images directly on their smart phones, tablets, gaming devices, or virtually any mobile device?
Outside of some drastic measures, I don’t know that it is possible. And if drastic measures would make it possible to shield our kids from these images, is it really worth the effort?
Is This Topic Worth Parent’s Time?
If I have rendered myself credible with you at all, let me say that pornography is worth taking drastic measures in which to shield your kids.
Just ask Ted Bundy and a boat-load just like him. Maybe your child will never become a Ted Bundy; but, how much in that direction are you willing to allow your son or daughter to go? If you understand that it is imperative to protect your child from pornography, then here are a few tips:
1)Don’t Allow Cell Phones
First, I wouldn’t send my child to a school that allowed cell phones in the school building. This may imply that home-schooling is the only option.
Your child may need to have a cell phone for security issues, but not one with an Internet connection.

2)Be Aware of Your Child’s Friends
Second, never allow your child to go to a friend’s house until you meet the parents and determine that Internet access is not available in the friend’s bedroom or on his/her smart phone, gaming system, or mobile devices.
Then, determine whether there is a filter on the one located in the exposed area of the house. If not, your child shouldn’t visit that home without you present.
3)Know the Areas Your Child Could Access Pornography
Third, you should familiarize yourself with the areas within your community where your child could potentially access pornography. Consider the following areas:
- Libraries tend to have computers directly connected to the Internet.
- Local coffee shops typically have free wi-fi connectivity. Some coffee shops may even have computers available.
- Fast food restaurants are increasing their wi-fi connectivity.
Does all this sound crazy to you? It does me too; but, it’s the world we live in.
