Getting Started on the Right Foot — Our Wilderness Program
The early part of life at Shepherds Hill Academy is a wilderness program, intended to eliminate distractions, build trust and foster teamwork. Being without technology and other conveniences leaves time to contemplate deeper issues of life. The necessity of working together to meet basic daily needs requires coping and teamwork skills, compelling teens to consider their obligation to others. As they observe staff and leaders who submit to God as the ultimate Authority, they learn a reference point for themselves and can more appropriately relate to authority and to others.
For Parents Seeking a Therapeutic Boarding School in Travelers Rest, South Carolina, We Offer a Well-Rounded Therapeutic Program and Accredited School
Once teens demonstrate responsible choices and take ownership of their growth, they transition to the residential program and live in a home on campus. This next step gets them ready to transition into society as privileges and personal liberties are restored. Careful coaching of parents in our retreats also occurs during this period in readiness for the teen’s going home.
During both parts of the program, the teens receive regular counseling and attend our on-campus, fully accredited junior and senior high school, taught by Georgia certified teachers. We desire students to continue their studies in college, so we include test prep for the SAT and ACT as part of our daily curriculum.
