Getting Started on the Right Foot — Our Wilderness Program
The early part of a stay at Shepherds Hill Academy is a wilderness program, intended to eliminate distractions, build trust and foster teamwork. Living without technology and other conveniences leaves time to contemplate more meaningful issues of life. The necessity of cooperating to meet simple daily needs involves coping and teamwork abilities, compelling teens to consider their responsibility to others. As they observe staff and leaders who submit to God as the ultimate Authority, they learn a reference point for themselves and can better relate to authority and to others.
For Parents Seeking a Therapeutic Boarding School in Toledo, Ohio, We Offer a Well-Rounded Therapeutic Program and Accredited School
After teens display responsible choices and take ownership of their development, they transfer to the residential program and live in a home on campus. This next step gets them ready to transition into society as privileges and individual freedoms are restored. Careful coaching of parents in our retreats also takes place during this period in preparation for the teen’s going home.
During both parts of the program, the teens receive regular counseling and attend our on-campus, fully accredited junior and senior high school, taught by Georgia certified teachers. We encourage students to go on to college, so we incorporate test prep for the SAT and ACT as part of our ordinary curriculum.
