Getting Started on the Right Foot — Our Wilderness Program
The first phase of enrollment at Shepherd’s Hill Academy is a wilderness program, carefully planned to get rid of distractions, build trust and encourage teamwork. Removing electronics and other conveniences allows teens to contemplate more meaningful issues of life. The necessity of collaborating to meet simple daily needs requires coping and teamwork skills, compelling teens to consider their responsibility to others. As they watch staff and leaders who submit to God as the true Authority, they learn a reference point for themselves and can better relate to authority and to others.
For Parents Seeking a Therapeutic Boarding School in Temple Hills, Maryland, We Offer a Well-Rounded Therapeutic Program and Accredited School
After teens consistently make responsible choices and take ownership of their development, they transition to the residential program and live in a home on campus. This next step prepares them to transition into society as privileges and personal freedoms are restored. Careful instruction of parents in our retreats also occurs during this phase in readiness for the teen’s going home.
All throughout the program, the teens receive regular counseling and attend our on-campus, fully accredited junior and senior high school, taught by Georgia certified instructors. We desire students to go on to college, so we incorporate test prep for the SAT and ACT as part of our regular curriculum.
