Getting Started on the Right Foot — Our Wilderness Program
The early part of life at Shepherd’s Hill Academy is a wilderness program, carefully planned to eliminate distractions, build trust and foster teamwork. Living without TV, cell phones and other conveniences leaves time to contemplate more meaningful issues of life. The necessity of collaborating to meet simple daily needs calls for coping and teamwork abilities, pushing teens to consider how their contribution impacts others. As they watch staff and leaders who submit to God as the true Authority, they learn a reference point for themselves and can better relate to authority and to others.

After a time, when teens display responsible decisions and take ownership of their growth, they transfer to the residential program and live in a home on campus. This next step gets them ready to transition into society as privileges and individual liberties are restored. Careful instruction of parents in our retreats also happens during this period in readiness for the teen’s going home.
During both parts of the program, the teens receive regular counseling and are enrolled in our on-campus, fully accredited junior and senior high school, staffed with Georgia certified instructors.
