A Christ-Centered Therapeutic Boarding School
Shepherd’s Hill Academy is unapologetically Christ-centered, believing that a change of heart due to a relationship with Jesus is the only real and lasting change. We provide a first-rate education, individual mentoring and counseling, equine therapy, and teamwork exercises to help teens build character and learn to make responsible choices.
Getting Started on the Right Foot — Our Wilderness Program
The first phase of life at Shepherd’s Hill Academy is a wilderness program, carefully planned to eliminate distractions, build trust and foster teamwork. Being without electronics and other conveniences gives teens an opportunity to contemplate more meaningful issues of life. The necessity of collaborating to meet basic daily needs requires coping and teamwork abilities, giving teens good reason to consider how their contribution impacts others. As they observe staff and leaders who submit to God as the ultimate Authority, they find a reference point for themselves and can better relate to authority and to others.
For Parents Seeking a Therapeutic Boarding School in Norfolk, Virginia, We Offer a Well-Rounded Therapeutic Program and Accredited School
Once teens consistently make responsible choices and take ownership of their growth, they shift to the residential program and live in a home on campus. This phase prepares them to transition into society as privileges and individual liberties are restored. Careful training of parents in our retreats also occurs during this phase in preparation for the teen’s return home.
During both phases of the program, the teens receive regular counseling and attend our on-campus, fully accredited junior and senior high school, staffed with Georgia certified teachers. We desire students to attend college, so we incorporate test prep for the SAT and ACT as part of our ordinary curriculum.
