Getting Started on the Right Foot — Our Wilderness Program
The first phase of enrollment at Shepherd’s Hill Academy is a wilderness program, designed to remove distractions, build trust and foster teamwork. Living without electronics and other conveniences gives teens an opportunity to contemplate deeper issues of life. The necessity of cooperating to meet simple daily needs requires coping and teamwork skills, compelling teens to consider how their contribution impacts others. As they watch staff and leaders who submit to God as the ultimate Authority, they learn a reference point for themselves and can better relate to authority and to others.
For Parents Seeking a Therapeutic Boarding School in Lynchburg, Virginia, We Offer a Well-Rounded Therapeutic Program and Accredited School
Once teens demonstrate responsible decisions and take ownership of their growth, they transition to the residential program and live in a home on campus. This phase prepares them to transition into society as privileges and personal liberties are restored. Careful coaching of parents in our retreats also occurs during this step in preparation for the teen’s return home.
During both phases of the program, the teens receive regular counseling and are enrolled in our on-campus, fully accredited junior and senior high school, staffed with Georgia certified teachers. We desire students to attend college, so we include test prep for the SAT and ACT as part of our ordinary curriculum.
