Getting Started on the Right Foot — Our Wilderness Program
The first phase of enrollment at Shepherd’s Hill Academy is a wilderness program, intended to eliminate distractions, build trust and encourage teamwork. Living without electronics and other conveniences allows teens to contemplate deeper issues of life. The necessity of collaborating to meet basic daily needs calls for coping and teamwork skills, compelling teens to consider their obligation to others. As they observe staff and leaders who submit to God as the true Authority, they learn a reference point for themselves and can better relate to authority and to others.
For Parents Seeking a Therapeutic Boarding School in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, We Offer a Well-Rounded Therapeutic Program and Accredited School
Once teens display responsible choices and take ownership of their growth, they shift to the residential program and live in a home on campus. This phase gets them ready to transition into society as privileges and individual freedoms are restored. Careful training of parents in our retreats also happens during this phase in preparation for the teen’s return home.
During both phases of the program, the teens receive regular counseling and are enrolled in our on-campus, fully accredited junior and senior high school, taught by Georgia certified teachers. We desire students to continue their studies in college, so we incorporate test prep for the SAT and ACT as part of our ordinary curriculum.
