A Christ-Centered Therapeutic Boarding School

Getting Started on the Right Foot — Our Wilderness Program
The first phase of enrollment at Shepherds Hill Academy is a wilderness program, carefully planned to get rid of distractions, build trust and foster teamwork. Living without technology and other conveniences leaves time to contemplate deeper issues of life. The necessity of cooperating to meet simple daily needs involves coping and teamwork abilities, compelling teens to consider their responsibility to others. As they observe staff and leaders who submit to God as the ultimate Authority, they find a reference point for themselves and can more appropriately relate to authority and to others.
For Parents Seeking a Therapeutic Boarding School in Kernersville, North Carolina, We Offer a Well-Rounded Therapeutic Program and Accredited School
After a time, when teens display responsible decisions and take ownership of their growth, they shift to the residential program and live in a home on campus. This next step gets them ready to transition into society as privileges and individual liberties are restored. Careful coaching of parents in our retreats also happens during this step in preparation for the teen’s going home.
All throughout the program, the teens receive regular counseling and attend our on-campus, fully accredited junior and senior high school, staffed with Georgia certified instructors. We encourage students to go on to college, so we include test prep for the SAT and ACT as part of our ordinary curriculum.

Some of the rural farmland surrounding the town has been sold and turned into large middle-to-upper-class housing developments, and numerous large shopping centers have been built in the town over the past few years. Flue-cured tobacco was the major crop grown in the area and is still grown in some areas today. While Kernersville went through a growth spurt in the early part of this decade it has leveled off and farms are doing well for the most part in an attempt to revitalize the agriculture community.
