Getting Started on the Right Foot — Our Wilderness Program
The early part of enrollment at Shepherd’s Hill Academy is a wilderness program, designed to eliminate distractions, build trust and foster teamwork. Living without TV, cell phones and other conveniences leaves time to contemplate more meaningful issues of life. The necessity of cooperating to meet basic daily needs requires coping and teamwork skills, pushing teens to consider their responsibility to others. As they watch staff and leaders who submit to God as the true Authority, they find a reference point for themselves and can more appropriately relate to authority and to others.
For Parents Seeking a Therapeutic Boarding School in Ephrata, Pennsylvania, We Offer a Well-Rounded Therapeutic Program and Accredited School
After a time, when teens consistently make responsible decisions and take ownership of their development, they transfer to the residential program and live in a home on campus. This next step gets them ready to transition into society as privileges and personal liberties are restored. Careful instruction of parents in our retreats also occurs during this phase in readiness for the teen’s going home.
During both parts of the program, the teens receive regular counseling and are enrolled in our on-campus, fully accredited junior and senior high school, staffed with Georgia certified instructors. We desire students to attend college, so we include test prep for the SAT and ACT as part of our ordinary curriculum.
