Getting Started on the Right Foot — Our Wilderness Program
The first phase of enrollment at Shepherd’s Hill Academy is a wilderness program, intended to get rid of distractions, build trust and teach teamwork. Removing technology and other conveniences allows teens to contemplate deeper issues of life. The necessity of collaborating to meet simple daily needs calls for coping and teamwork skills, giving teens good reason to consider how their contribution impacts others. As they watch staff and leaders who submit to God as the ultimate Authority, they find a reference point for themselves and can more appropriately relate to authority and to others.
For Parents Seeking a Therapeutic Boarding School in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, We Offer a Well-Rounded Therapeutic Program and Accredited School
Once teens demonstrate responsible decisions and take ownership of their development, they shift to the residential program and move to a home on campus. This next step gets them ready to transition into society as privileges and personal freedoms are restored. Careful instruction of parents in our retreats also happens during this step in readiness for the teen’s return home.
During both parts of the program, the teens receive regular counseling and attend our on-campus, fully accredited junior and senior high school, staffed with Georgia certified teachers. We desire students to go on to college, so we include test prep for the SAT and ACT as part of our daily curriculum.
