Getting Started on the Right Foot — Our Wilderness Program
The first phase of life at Shepherds Hill Academy is a wilderness program, intended to eliminate distractions, build trust and teach teamwork. Being without electronics and other conveniences allows teens to contemplate deeper issues of life. The necessity of collaborating to meet basic daily needs requires coping and teamwork strategies, pushing teens to consider their responsibility to others. As they watch staff and leaders who submit to God as the true Authority, they learn a reference point for themselves and can better relate to authority and to others.
For Parents Seeking a Therapeutic Boarding School in Conway, South Carolina, We Offer a Well-Rounded Therapeutic Program and Accredited School
After a time, when teens demonstrate responsible decisions and take ownership of their growth, they transition to the residential program and live in a home on campus. This phase prepares them to transition into society as privileges and individual liberties are restored. Careful instruction of parents in our retreats also takes place during this period in preparation for the teen’s going home.
All throughout the program, the teens receive regular counseling and are enrolled in our on-campus, fully accredited junior and senior high school, staffed with Georgia certified instructors. We encourage students to continue their studies in college, so we include test prep for the SAT and ACT as part of our regular curriculum.
