The Wilderness Program is the First Phase
The first phase of enrollment at Shepherd’s Hill Academy is a wilderness program, designed to remove distractions, build trust and foster teamwork. Being without electricity and other conveniences gives teens an opportunity to contemplate deeper issues of life. The necessity of collaborating to meet basic daily needs calls for coping and teamwork skills, giving teens good reason to consider their obligation to others.
The Residential Program is Next
Once the teens in our care demonstrate responsible decisions and take ownership of their growth, they transition to the residential program and live in a home on campus. This next step gets them ready to transition into society as privileges and individual liberties are restored.

During both parts of the program, teens attend our on-campus, fully accredited junior and senior high school, taught by Georgia certified teachers. Our unique combination of wilderness therapy, certified equine program, and first-class school is all designed to bring focus back into a child’s life. We also utilize accountability groups, individual behavioral and family sessions for the adolescent.
