SHA is a Hybrid Between a Wilderness Program and a Boarding School, with a Christian Emphasis
Shepherd’s Hill Academy, located in northeast Georgia about 2 hours from Atlanta, is a hybrid between a therapeutic wilderness program and a Christian boarding school with several forms of therapy, including counseling and equine therapy. Teens attend Shepherd’s Hill Academy from the east coast, south, midwest, western states and west coast, including from towns like Palm Beach.
The Wilderness Program is the First Phase
The early part of enrollment at Shepherd’s Hill Academy is a wilderness program, intended to remove distractions, build trust and encourage teamwork. Living without technology and other conveniences gives teens an opportunity to contemplate deeper issues of life. The necessity of cooperating to meet basic daily needs requires coping and teamwork abilities, pushing teens to consider their obligation to others.
The Residential Program is Next
After a time, when teens demonstrate responsible decisions and take ownership of their development, they transfer to the residential program and move to a home on campus. This next step gets them ready to transition into society as privileges and personal freedoms are restored.
A Christian Boarding School Along with Therapy and Counseling
During both phases of the program, teens are enrolled in our on-campus, fully accredited junior and senior high school, taught by Georgia certified teachers. We desire students to get caught up and to also prepare for college, so we also incorporate test prep for the SAT and ACT as part of our ordinary curriculum.
Troubled teens are helped with the skills needed to become more confident, productive and respectful at home, school, and in the community. We provide a fully accredited junior and senior high school on campus. Our unique combination of wilderness therapy, certified equine program, and first-class school is all designed to bring focus back into a child’s life. We also utilize accountability groups, individual behavioral and family counseling.
