The Wilderness Program is the First Phase

The first phase of enrollment at Shepherd’s Hill Academy is a wilderness program, intended to remove distractions, build trust and encourage teamwork. Being without electricity and other conveniences gives teens an opportunity to contemplate deeper issues of life. The necessity of cooperating to meet simple daily needs demands coping and teamwork strategies, compelling teens to consider their obligation to others.

The Residential Program is Next

After a time, when teens display responsible decisions and take ownership of their development, they transition to the residential program and live in a home on campus. This phase prepares them to transition into society as privileges and personal liberties are restored.
