The Wilderness Program is the First Phase
The first phase of enrollment at Shepherd’s Hill Academy is a wilderness program, designed to get rid of distractions, build trust and teach teamwork. Living without technology and other conveniences gives teens an opportunity to contemplate more meaningful issues of life. The necessity of cooperating to meet basic daily needs demands coping and teamwork abilities, pushing teens to consider their responsibility to others.
The Residential Program is Next
After a time, when teens demonstrate responsible decisions and take ownership of their growth, they shift to the residential program and live in a home on campus. This phase prepares them to transition into society as privileges and personal freedoms are restored.
