Once enrolled, your teen will first experience the Unplugged Shepherds Hill Academy Outdoor Wilderness Program which helps teens get back to the basics of life. Outside of the classroom, students are without all electronic devices connected to the Internet, Social Media, etc. During this time it allows your teen to consider and evaluate the poor choices he or she has been making. This program is designed to create, establish, and maintain a safe and loving authoritative community. With this environment, we are able to provide your teen with an atmosphere free of all negative cultural influences. Students typically remain in the Outdoor Wilderness Program for approximately ten months before graduating to the Next Step Program.
The Next Step Program provides a safe and structured living environment in modern houses located on our main campus. This program is structured to challenge students to build on the character they developed from their unplugged outdoor experience. It is a transition period to prepare students for an environment similar to home and the real world. Students are given more privileges and opportunities to expand and grow as they continue their daily school work and therapeutic sessions.
The Equine Therapy Program at Shepherds Hill Academy is a therapeutic approach that focuses on relationships and utilizes horses as a tool to enhance behavioral, relational, emotional and spiritual growth. Your teen will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with a horse they select during this therapy. Each week your teen will participate in individual and group therapy involving their respective horses.
