Shepherds Hill Academy: Quality Boarding School for Troubled Teens in the Valdosta, Georgia Area
Helping Teens and their Families Begin Healing
For over 20 years, Shepherds Hill Academy (SHA) has been working with troubled teens who exhibit behavioral problems that could, untreated, adversely affect them for the rest of their lives. These teens may be having severe troubles with school attendance and behavior, anger issues, and are engaging in very risky actions such as involvement in drugs, alcohol, sexual activity, violence, or criminal behaviors. For parents of such teens, it is not uncommon to feel hopeless and overwhelmed while being worried sick about what your teen is doing to him- or herself and your family.
Georgia-Based Therapeutic Boarding School Programs Help Troubled Teens
Shepherds Hill Academy is located about two hours outside of Atlanta in northeast Georgia. Employing a variety of therapeutic approaches to helping teens learn personal accountability and gain character growth, including an outdoor adventure (wilderness) program, an equine therapy program, one-on-one mentoring and counseling, and attendance at our 100% fully accredited on-campus academy, we work with teens in a holistic manner.
Teens first enter our Wilderness Program, where they “get back to nature” while living in rustic conditions without modern distractions such as electronics. This gives them ample opportunity to learn to work as part of a team and foster personal growth.
Teens can then qualify to enter the Next Step program, where they live in on-campus housing and continue to attend segregated classrooms at our academy. Here, each teen gets personal mentoring and caring instruction to help them catch up to grade level requirements, earn credits for graduating junior or senior high, explore potential career options, and prepare for college. During this phase, each teen has the opportunity to earn some privileges and personal freedoms as they begin to transition back into the outside world.
During these programs, teens can be involved in equine therapy and are placed into customized individual, group, and family counseling and therapies to address specific issues.
A Christian-Based Wilderness/Residential Boarding School
Our highly effective hybrid program that incorporates both a wilderness and boarding school approach is guided and taught by caring and compassionate staff and counselors who emphasize a Christ-centric focus. Our unapologetically Christian guidance is based on the philosophy that it is only through Christ that real, lasting, and positive changes can be made in each teen’s heart and mind.
