If you are a hurting parent with a teen who is struggling, allow us to share with you the heart of Shepherd’s Hill Academy. Our preeminent objective is to obey God each and every day in our own private and professional lives. What God does in the lives of teens never ceases to amaze us, our staff, and especially the parents. The results are astonishing as teens’ lives transform before everyone’s eyes.
We’ve combined the best of other therapeutic programs into one program that both includes the wilderness aspect and a first class education. And, of course, the pivotal factor is that we teach the kids to look to God for their strength and for answers for their life.
The constant stimulation of God’s love and truth through our staff is meant to mentor a child’s appetites to hunger for more wholesome activities. Although our Christ-centered approach to education operates as any other modern school, the intentionally primitive living conditions relieve kids of the many negative cultural influences that are bombarding them from every direction today. Peer pressure is turned inside out as kids are taught to think critically about the important issues of life. Faulty thinking patterns are exposed for what they are.
Kids learn to discern and distinguish the difference between intelligence, knowledge, and wisdom; and how they all apply to life and reality. Kids get another chance at childhood, while learning how to properly approach and address the critical issues of adulthood. Peace and sanity return to the family as parents also learn through our retreats and constant contact.

P.S. As you do more research, you WILL find websites that are spreading untruths about Shepherd’s Hill. This is common to virtually any ministry—but especially for Christian residential programs like ours. At first glance, the websites may seem authoritative; but due to the ease of putting just about anything on the Internet, a single young person has taken it upon himself to initiate the spread of falsehoods through various avenues. He was a former student—an avowed atheist—who left our program before we could help him. Unfortunately, there are always people and organizations that will jump on the band wagon to discredit Christian organizations by calling them abusive or “cults,” regardless of the veracity of the claims. So, the lies are being spread. Please, please, please, talk to us, or any of our parents, past or present, about these allegations before writing off our program. We can easily answer any question and put you in touch with parents who have their child in our program right now, who will confirm that the allegations are totally false. We have done everything we can do to reason with this young man, and his subsequent constituency (other sites that have spread the lies). However, short of taking legal action (which we don’t feel is good stewardship of God’s resources) it is something we will just have to live with until stricter Internet legislation for libel becomes a reality.
