This week on License to Parent with Trace Embry… Our guests are Dr. Archibald Hart and Dr. Sylvia Hart Frejd. Dr. Hart and Dr. Frejd are a father/daughter team in the field of Christian counseling, coaching; as well as, public speakers and authors. They are co-authors of the book “The Digital Invasion – How Technology is Shaping You and Your Relationships.” We discuss how parents should monitor how much time their child spends in their virtual life compared to their real life. If your concerned your child has an addiction to technology, ask these questions: Does my child get anxious when he cannot be on the internet? Does he spend too much time playing video games? Are his relationships with others, or his school work effected by too much digital invasion?
Our guests offer a three-step digital wellness plan for families, called TMI. T = Trust – establish trust, and let them know you are genuinely concerned about their time on the internet and how it effects them. M = Manage – your own personal digital boundaries to be a positive influence. I = Implement – your own family rules and boundaries for digital use, and create a contract that includes consequences for breaking the boundaries. A great program focusing on the perspective of the digital invasion in our parenting relationship with our children, and our children’s relationship with us and others.
