Getting Started on the Right Foot — Our Wilderness Program
The early part of enrollment at Shepherds Hill Academy is a wilderness program, designed to eliminate distractions, build trust and teach teamwork. Living without electricity and other conveniences leaves time to contemplate more meaningful issues of life. The necessity of working together to meet basic daily needs requires coping and teamwork skills, giving teens good reason to consider their obligation to others. As they watch staff and leaders who submit to God as the ultimate Authority, they find a reference point for themselves and can more appropriately relate to authority and to others.
For Parents Seeking a Therapeutic Boarding School in Indian Head, Maryland, We Offer a Well-Rounded Therapeutic Program and Accredited School
After teens consistently make responsible decisions and take ownership of their growth, they transfer to the residential program and live in a home on campus. This phase prepares them to transition into society as privileges and individual liberties are restored. Careful coaching of parents in our retreats also takes place during this phase in readiness for the teen’s return home.
During both parts of the program, teens receive regular counseling and attend our on-campus, fully accredited junior and senior high school, staffed with Georgia certified instructors. We desire students to continue their studies in college, so we incorporate test prep for the SAT and ACT as part of our ordinary curriculum.
