A Hybrid Between a Wilderness Program and a Boarding School, with a Christian Emphasis
Shepherd’s Hill Academy, located in northeast Georgia about 2 hours from Atlanta, is a blend of a therapeutic wilderness program and a Christian boarding school with several forms of therapy, including counseling and equine therapy. Teens come to Shepherd’s Hill Academy from the east coast, south, midwest, western states and west coast, including from towns like Quitman.
The Wilderness Program is the First Phase
The early part of enrollment at Shepherd’s Hill Academy is a wilderness program, carefully planned to get rid of distractions, build trust and teach teamwork. Removing electronics and other conveniences allows teens to contemplate deeper issues of life. The necessity of collaborating to meet basic daily needs calls for coping and teamwork strategies, pushing teens to consider their obligation to others.
The Residential Program is Next
After a time, when teens display responsible decisions and take ownership of their growth, they transition to the residential program and move to a home on campus. This phase gets them ready to transition into society as privileges and individual liberties are restored.
