Have you been struggling with an angry or unruly teen in your home? Has your troubled boy or girl been expelled from school, or gotten into trouble with the law? Do you worry about their safety? We provide a first-rate education, person-to-person mentoring and counseling, equine therapy, and teamwork exercises to help teens grow character and learn to make responsible choices.
A Hybrid Between a Wilderness Program and a Boarding School, with a Christian Emphasis
Shepherds Hill Academy, located in northeast Georgia about 2 hours from Atlanta, is a hybrid between a therapeutic wilderness program and a Christian boarding school with several forms of therapy, including counseling and equine therapy. Teens arrive at Shepherds Hill Academy from the east coast, south, midwest, western states and west coast, including from towns like Oxford.
The Wilderness Program is the First Phase
The first phase of enrollment at Shepherds Hill Academy is a wilderness program, carefully planned to eliminate distractions, build trust and foster teamwork. Living without TV, cell phones and other conveniences allows teens to contemplate more meaningful issues of life. The necessity of collaborating to meet basic daily needs demands coping and teamwork strategies, pushing teens to consider how their contribution impacts others.
The Residential Program is Next
After a time, when teens display responsible choices and take ownership of their development, they transition to the residential program and live in a home on campus. This phase prepares them to transition into society as privileges and individual liberties are restored.
