A Hybrid Between a Wilderness Program and a Boarding School, with a Christian Emphasis
Shepherds Hill Academy, located in northeast Georgia about 2 hours from Atlanta, is a hybrid between a therapeutic wilderness program and a Christian boarding school with several forms of therapy, including counseling and equine therapy. Teens come to Shepherds Hill Academy from the east coast, south, midwest, western states and west coast, including from towns like Milledgeville.
The Wilderness Program is the First Phase
The first phase of life at Shepherds Hill Academy is a wilderness program, intended to eliminate distractions, build trust and foster teamwork. Living without electronics and other conveniences allows teens to contemplate deeper issues of life. The necessity of working together to meet simple daily needs calls for coping and teamwork strategies, pushing teens to consider their responsibility to others.
The Residential Program is Next
After residents display responsible choices and take ownership of their development, they shift to the residential program and live in a home on campus. This phase gets them ready to transition into society as privileges and personal freedoms are restored.
