Shepherds Hill Academy, located in northeast Georgia about 2 hours from Atlanta, is a blend of a therapeutic wilderness program and a Christian boarding school with several forms of therapy, including counseling and equine therapy. The Wilderness Program is the First Phase
The early part of a stay at Shepherds Hill Academy is a wilderness program, intended to remove distractions, build trust and teach teamwork. Removing TV, cell phones and other conveniences leaves time to contemplate deeper issues of life. The necessity of collaborating to meet simple daily needs involves coping and teamwork skills, compelling teens to consider their obligation to others.
The Residential Program is Next
After a time, when teens demonstrate responsible choices and take ownership of their development, they transition to the residential program and live in a home on campus. This next step prepares them to transition into society as privileges and individual freedoms are restored.
