SHA is a Hybrid Between a Wilderness Program and a Boarding School, with a Christian Emphasis
Shepherds Hill Academy, located in northeast Georgia about 2 hours from Atlanta, is a hybrid between a therapeutic wilderness program and a Christian boarding school with several forms of therapy, including counseling and equine therapy. Teens attend Shepherds Hill Academy from the east coast, south, midwest, western states and west coast, including from towns like Haleyville.
The Wilderness Program is the First Phase
The first phase of a stay at Shepherds Hill Academy is a wilderness program, carefully planned to eliminate distractions, build trust and foster teamwork. Removing technology and other conveniences leaves time to contemplate more meaningful issues of life. The necessity of cooperating to meet basic daily needs requires coping and teamwork skills, pushing teens to consider their obligation to others.
The Residential Program is Next
After a time, when teens display responsible decisions and take ownership of their growth, they transition to the residential program and move to a home on campus. This phase gets them ready to transition into society as privileges and personal freedoms are restored.
A Christian Boarding School Along with Therapy and Counseling
All throughout the program, teens are enrolled in our on-campus, fully accredited junior and senior high school, taught by Georgia certified instructors. We desire students to get caught up and to also prepare for college, so we also incorporate test prep for the SAT and ACT as part of our ordinary curriculum.
Troubled youth are helped with the skills needed to become more confident, productive and respectful at home, school, and in the community. We provide a fully accredited junior and senior high school on campus. Our unique combination of a wilderness program, certified equine program, and first-class school is all designed to bring focus back into a child’s life. We also utilize accountability groups, individual behavioral and family counseling.
Students who come to our school from all over the country, including Haleyville, Alabama and enrollment is year-round. Call us at (706) 779-5766 or visit the rest of this site to learn more.
