SHA is a Hybrid Between a Wilderness Program and a Boarding School, with a Christian Emphasis
Shepherds Hill Academy, located in northeast Georgia about 2 hours from Atlanta, combines the best aspects of a therapeutic wilderness program and a Christian boarding school with several forms of therapy, including counseling and equine therapy. Teens arrive at Shepherds Hill Academy from the east coast, south, midwest, western states and west coast, including from towns like Guntersville.
The Wilderness Program is the First Phase
The first phase of life at Shepherds Hill Academy is a wilderness program, intended to get rid of distractions, build trust and encourage teamwork. Being without electricity and other conveniences leaves time to contemplate deeper issues of life. The necessity of working together to meet basic daily needs requires coping and teamwork skills, compelling teens to consider how their contribution impacts others.
The Residential Program is Next
After residents display responsible choices and take ownership of their development, they transition to the residential program and move to a home on campus. This phase prepares them to transition into society as privileges and personal liberties are restored.
A Christian Boarding School Along with Therapy and Counseling
During both parts of the program, teens are enrolled in our on-campus, fully accredited junior and senior high school, staffed with Georgia certified instructors. We desire students to get caught up and to also prepare for college, so we also include test prep for the SAT and ACT as part of our ordinary curriculum.
Troubled youth are helped with the skills needed to become more confident, productive and respectful at home, school, and in the community. We provide a state accredited junior and senior high school on campus. Our unique combination of wilderness therapy, certified equine program, and first-class school is all designed to bring focus back into a child’s life. We also utilize accountability groups, individual behavioral and family counseling.
Students who come to our school from all over the country, including Guntersville, Alabama and enrollment is year-round. Call us at (706) 779-5766 or visit the rest of this site to learn more.
