Shepherd’s Hill Academy, located in northeast Georgia about 2 hours from Atlanta, is a blend of a therapeutic wilderness program and a Christian boarding school with several forms of therapy, including counseling and equine therapy. Teens come to Shepherd’s Hill Academy from the east coast, south, midwest, western states and west coast, including from towns like Groveland.

The Wilderness Program is the First Phase

The early part of enrollment at Shepherd’s Hill Academy is a wilderness program, intended to get rid of distractions, build trust and teach teamwork. Living without electricity and other conveniences leaves time to contemplate more meaningful issues of life. The necessity of working together to meet basic daily needs calls for coping and teamwork strategies, giving teens good reason to consider their obligation to others.

The Residential Program is Next

After residents consistently make responsible choices and take ownership of their development, they transition to the residential program and live in a home on campus. This phase gets them ready to transition into society as privileges and individual freedoms are restored.

A Christian Boarding School Along with Therapy and Counseling

During both parts of the program, teens attend our on-campus, fully accredited junior and senior high school, taught by Georgia certified instructors. We desire students to get caught up and to also prepare for college, so we also incorporate test prep for the SAT and ACT as part of our ordinary curriculum.

Troubled teens are helped with the skills needed to become more confident, productive and respectful at home, school, and in the community. We provide a state accredited junior and senior high school on campus. Our unique combination of wilderness therapy, certified equine program, and first-class school is all designed to bring focus back into a child’s life. We also utilize accountability groups, individual behavioral and family sessions for the adolescent.
