SHA is a Hybrid Between a Wilderness Program and a Boarding School, with a Christian Emphasis
Shepherds Hill Academy, located in northeast Georgia about 2 hours from Atlanta, is a hybrid between a therapeutic wilderness program and a Christian boarding school with several forms of therapy, including counseling and equine therapy. Teens arrive at Shepherds Hill Academy from the east coast, south, midwest, western states and west coast, including from towns like Grant.
The Wilderness Program is the First Phase
The early part of a stay at Shepherds Hill Academy is a wilderness program, intended to eliminate distractions, build trust and encourage teamwork. Being without TV, cell phones and other conveniences allows teens to contemplate more meaningful issues of life. The necessity of cooperating to meet simple daily needs involves coping and teamwork skills, compelling teens to consider their obligation to others.
The Residential Program is Next
After a time, when teens consistently make responsible choices and take ownership of their growth, they transition to the residential program and move to a home on campus. This phase gets them ready to transition into society as privileges and individual liberties are restored.
A Christian Boarding School Along with Therapy and Counseling
All throughout the program, teens attend our on-campus, fully accredited junior and senior high school, taught by Georgia certified teachers. We desire students to get caught up and to also prepare for college, so we also incorporate test prep for the SAT and ACT as part of our ordinary curriculum.
Troubled youth are helped with the skills needed to become more confident, productive and respectful at home, school, and in the community. We provide a state accredited junior and senior high school on campus. Our unique combination of a wilderness program, certified equine program, and first-class school is all designed to bring focus back into a child’s life. We also utilize accountability groups, individual behavioral and family counseling.
Students who come to our school from all over the country, including Grant, Alabama and enrollment is year-round. Call us at (706) 779-5766 or visit the rest of this site to learn more.
