Maybe you’ve been struggling with an angry or unruly teen in your family? Has your troubled boy or girl been kicked out of school, or gotten into trouble with the law? A Hybrid Between a Wilderness Program and a Boarding School, with a Christian Emphasis
Shepherds Hill Academy, located in northeast Georgia about 2 hours from Atlanta, is a hybrid between a therapeutic wilderness program and a Christian boarding school with several forms of therapy, including counseling and equine therapy. Teens arrive at Shepherds Hill Academy from the east coast, south, midwest, western states and west coast, including from towns like Cumberland.
The Wilderness Program is the First Phase
The early part of enrollment at Shepherds Hill Academy is a wilderness program, intended to remove distractions, build trust and foster teamwork. Removing technology and other conveniences leaves time to contemplate more meaningful issues of life. The necessity of working together to meet basic daily needs demands coping and teamwork strategies, compelling teens to consider their obligation to others.
The Residential Program is Next
After a time, when teens consistently make responsible decisions and take ownership of their growth, they shift to the residential program and live in a home on campus. This next step prepares them to transition into society as privileges and individual freedoms are restored.
