A Hybrid Between a Wilderness Program and a Boarding School, with a Christian Emphasis

Shepherd’s Hill Academy, located in northeast Georgia about 2 hours from Atlanta, is a hybrid between a therapeutic wilderness program and a Christian boarding school with several forms of therapy, including counseling and equine therapy. Teens come to Shepherd’s Hill Academy from the east coast, south, midwest, western states and west coast, including from towns like Chapel Hill.

The Wilderness Program is the First Phase

The first phase of life at Shepherd’s Hill Academy is a wilderness program, intended to get rid of distractions, build trust and teach teamwork. Removing electronics and other conveniences gives teens an opportunity to contemplate deeper issues of life. The necessity of collaborating to meet simple daily needs involves coping and teamwork strategies, pushing teens to consider their obligation to others.

The Residential Program is Next

Once the teens in our care demonstrate responsible choices and take ownership of their development, they transition to the residential program and live in a home on campus. This next step gets them ready to transition into society as privileges and individual freedoms are restored.
