Shepherd’s Hill: A Therapeutic Boarding School in Georgia
Your home has become a nightmare. Your child seems angry, and he or she is running with the wrong crowd, experimenting with drugs, alcohol, or sex, or is in trouble at school or with the law. Maybe your son or daughter has ADHD, OCD, or ODD, and it is affecting him
After 20 years working with difficult and rebellious teenagers at Shepherd’s Hill Academy, we know what you are going through. Many Georgia parents have told us that our program saved their son’s or daughter’s life and got their child back on track motivationally, academically, and spiritually.
Programs Designed Especially for Troubled Teens
Our curriculum combines a variety of proven programs and academics to help teens learn personal responsibility, respect for self and others, and academic achievement; including equine therapy, outdoor wilderness therapy, school classes, group therapy, family sessions for the adolescent, and individualized therapy.
We are located in the northeast Georgia Mountains, in the small town of Martin, which is about 85 miles from Atlanta, 200 miles from Columbus, or 245 miles north of Savannah. While travel time from your home to Shepherd’s Hill Academy may be measured in hours, this separation from former social groups and negative behavioral triggers helps teens learn new patterns of thinking and acting that lead to better, more positive outcomes.
Boys and girls start out in gender-segregated outdoor wilderness campuses, specifically tailored for both the Boys Wilderness Program and the Girls Wilderness Program. Here, they will be given tasks and responsibilities on an individual and team basis while also working to reach academic goals in our central educational campus. Loving and caring Christian counselors and professionals provide an atmosphere that enables your son or daughter to improve critical, constructive, and creative thinking capacities and build a relationship with God for true heart change. Activities and duties are structured around promoting in each teen a renewed sense of positive identity, personal accomplishment, and a renewed desire to learn.
After successfully completing the residential wilderness part of the program, each teen has the opportunity to become eligible to transfer to main-campus housing for the Next Step program. This program continues to build on the progress made in the Therapeutic Outdoor program while allowing teens more freedom and choices. They can now earn privileges such as television or video games as they participate in domestic tasks and responsibilities and continue with their academic programs.
Shepherd’s Hill Academic Component
Shepherd’s Hill Academy’s on-campus private school helps students repair poor grades and catch up and stay on track academically. Both our middle school and senior high programs are fully accredited through the Georgia Accrediting Commission and are in line with the Georgia Department of Education guidelines and requirements. All credits earned can be transferred to other schools and/or colleges in other states.
After enrollment at Shepherd’s Hill, our principal and faculty work with you and your teen to design a plan and classroom schedule that will help your son or daughter advance in areas where he or she may have fallen behind. A wide variety of courses and electives cover general education, music, sports, and more. We also utilize Georgia Virtual School to allow students access to Advanced Placement classes; college preparatory, career, and technical courses; and other electives to enhance each student’s learning experience.
