Need a Residential Boarding School near West Columbia, South Carolina?
It’s Time to Learn More about Georgia-Based Shepherds Hill Academy
As a parent, you are facing despair when it comes to working with your troubled teen. Your teen is acting out and defiantly breaking your house rules, and you feel helpless as you watch them destroying their lives and their future.
While Georgia might seem like a long way to go for a therapeutic boarding school, the distance between home and Shepherds Hill Academy (SHA) might be the best way to get your teen out of their current negative environment and break the destructive cycle. For a generation, the owners and staff at SHA have been effectively helping troubled teens from South Carolina and all over the country start to take a hard look at the direction of their lives and begin learning positive behaviors and decision-making skills.
Find Hope with Shepherds Hill Academy’s Programs for Troubled Teens
What makes SHA so unique is our special hybrid of the most effective types of teen programs: outdoor wilderness programs and residential boarding school. This combination—along with our unapologetically Christ-centered approach for true and lasting change—has assisted hundreds of teens and their families in developing better outcomes for the future.
All incoming participants are placed in our Outdoor Wilderness Program to start. Here, rustic living without access to cellphones, the Internet, or other modern distractions forces teens to work as part of a team in gender-segregated communities to complete tasks that are part of daily life. This approach fosters a focus on personal responsibility and character growth while learning to cooperate with others in order to succeed.
Once your teen has completed the Wilderness Program and qualified to move on, he or she will enter the Next Step program. Now living in on-campus housing, teens have the chance to earn privileges and win back some personal freedoms. This program helps them begin the transition back into normal society.
All teens attend school in our on-campus learning center. Teens are able to catch up to grade level and earn further credits toward graduation in junior and senior high in our fully accredited school. Teens can also choose to participate in college prep classes, vocational technology courses, and elective courses in the arts and sports. They will receive personal attention as well as class instruction. Teens are also enrolled in individual, family, and group therapies and counseling to further deal with issues they may be facing and in learning how to improve quality of life.
The Wilderness Program is the First Phase
The first phase of enrollment at Shepherds Hill Academy is a wilderness program, intended to get rid of distractions, build trust and encourage teamwork. Being without electricity and other conveniences allows teens to contemplate more meaningful issues of life. The necessity of cooperating to meet simple daily needs calls for coping and teamwork abilities, pushing teens to consider their responsibility to others.
