Considering a boarding school near Stockbridge, Georgia for a troubled teen? Why not consider Shepherds Hill Academy?
Is your teen struggling to follow family rules or expectations? Have you seen a drop in your teen’s grades at school; or has your teen been suspended from school? Does your teen struggle with authority? Is your teen hanging around negative peers or peers who might be harmful? Is your teen’s personal hygiene not meeting the family’s normal standards? Has your teen been struggling with anger? Has your teen tried to harm themselves? If you answered yes to any of these questions, maybe it’s time to think about looking into residential care options; such as wilderness programs, alternative schools, or therapeutic boarding schools. Maybe you have considered these options but are just unsure where to start or how to begin.

Christian Based Outdoor Wilderness, Therapeutic, Residential Boarding School near Stockbridge, Georgia
Shepherds Hill Academy is a blend of an outdoor wilderness program, a therapeutic residential program and a first-rate accredited educational academy, all which include a Christian emphasis.
Therapeutic Outdoor Wilderness Program – No Digital Technology Begins Healing
Phase one begins with the unplugged outdoor wilderness program, which is designed to eliminate distractions, build trust and foster teamwork. Prior to coming to Shepherds Hill Academy, a teenager’s typical day consists of computers, smart phones, music and TV around the clock, which often affects their attitude and motivation. Living without all the electronics and social media will free your teen from cultural distractions and then they will be able to discover the true meaning of life; all through an unplugged experiential learning and living environment.
We focus our teens on using their heads, hearts, minds and souls. Examples of how they might start living their lives doing this could be growing a garden; helping to build their own living quarters in the woods; gathering firewood to heat their living quarters or for cooking their meals. They will also participate in equine therapy where they will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with a horse they choose. The equine therapy will help them learn how to interact with others and not be so focused on only themselves. The unplugged outdoor wilderness program will take the teens out of their comfort zones and teach them more about the basics and foundations for living. They will not only learn how to cope, but learn how to work with others and consider their responsibility toward others.
Residential Program – Taking the Next Step towards Wellness
The second phase of a stay at Shepherds Hill Academy is the inside residential or Next Step Program. Once your teen has shown they can make responsible choices and take ownership of their development, they would move to a house located on campus. Your teen will be allowed more freedom and opportunity to make choices between right and wrong. They will also gain back certain privileges; a reintroduction to technology, responsible for common household chores and maybe even an opportunity to have a job on campus. This step begins to get them ready to transition back into an environment similar to home and ready to become productive citizens. We also utilize accountability groups, individual behavioral and family sessions for the adolescent.
An Accredited Boarding School in Georgia with Certified Teachers and College Prep
During all parts of the program, your teen will attend our fully accredited junior and senior high school, which is located at the center of our main campus. The classrooms are fully equipped to offer a superior learning environment; they are staffed with Georgia certified instructors with a student to teacher ratio that is never greater than 5 to 1. In addition, each classroom has a teacher’s aide to assist in the classroom as well as tutor individual students where additional help may be needed.
