Does this describe your home? You’ve been having difficulty with your teenager. He or she is rebellious and unruly. Your son or daughter has been kicked out of school or has gotten into trouble with the law or authorities. You constantly worry about his or her safety. As a result, you realize the current situation is untenable and you are considering residential care options for your son or daughter such as a therapeutic boarding school or outdoor wilderness program. Well, why not both?
Please consider Shepherds Hill Academy, located in Martin, Georgia, about 2 hours north of Atlanta. We provide an excellent education, individual mentoring and counseling, equine and family sessions for the adolescent, and group exercises which help teens develop character and learn to make responsible choices.
Drawing on the best practices from both a traditional therapeutic wilderness program and an academic boarding school, Shepherds Hill Academy has transformed the lives of troubled teenagers and their families from virtually everywhere across the United States. We want to help your family succeed too!
Therapeutic Outdoor Wilderness Program
The first phase of your son or daughter’s stay at Shepherds Hill Academy is in our therapeutic outdoor wilderness program; whereas, students reside in cabins in the wooded section of campus. It is intended to eliminate distractions, build trust, and encourage teamwork. Removing technology and other secular distractions allows your teenager to contemplate the deeper issues of life. The necessity of working with other teenagers to meet basic daily needs demands coping and teamwork strategies, and results in your son or daughter having to consider how their contributions and actions will impact others on a daily basis.
The Next Step Residential Program
When your son or daughter consistently demonstrates responsible choices and takes ownership of their growth, they are eligible to be promoted to the residential program and live in a home on the main campus. This next step prepares them to transition back into society, and/or your home, as privileges and individual freedoms are restored. As students demonstrate responsible behavior, they are given more opportunities to prove their newly improved behaviors. During this time, students work on goals to continue their high school or college education or choose a career field.
An Accredited Boarding School in Georgia with Certified Teachers and College Prep
During both phases of the program, teens are enrolled in our on-campus, fully accredited junior and senior high school, staffed with Georgia certified teachers. We not only assist students to get caught up and excel in high school, but also prepare them for college. Therefore, we incorporate test preparations for the SAT and ACT as part of our regular curriculum. We also work with your child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) and offer Advanced Placement (AP) courses.
