In Exodus 20, God plainly tells us not to have any idols in our life.
So why do so many parents buy into the notion that your teen should be number one?
So, let me ask you, are your kids number one in your life?
Why Should My Child be Number Three?
Many parents would boast that their kids are truly number one in their lives.
If you believe your kid is number one, I would challenge that your child should be number three.
Could it be that the trouble you are having with your child is a direct result of making Junior number one?
If you truly have made your child number one, then you have made an idol out of him! Trust me; you can truly love your child greater if our Creator (God) becomes number one. My wife is glad she is number two in my life. My kids are happy, content, and secure being third. When God is truly number one, He will do the loving through us.
God can’t bless your relationship with your children when your kids are more important to you than He is. He is a jealous God. Remember the first two commandments.
Is there any wonder there is so much dysfunction in American families today? God will take a back seat to nobody–not even your kids. You are either making God number one in your life or you are an idolater. Pray that you don’t make idols out of your children–whether intentionally or unintentionally. Your children will thank you for it. God will bless you for it!
