One component of our cultural vision at Shepherds Hill Academy is to see hurting families restored to one another. Time and time again, we see this incredible transformation with the families of the students we serve.
Listen, as this family member shares how her troubled teen experienced transformation through the therapeutic offerings at Shepherds Hill Academy.
Transformation at Shepherds Hill Academy
Our family was crumbling because of her anger; breaking things, throwing things, yelling, and screaming. It just wasn’t healthy. So, I knew at some point I was going to have to take her in and find a place. But what happened, the final straw, she was getting to where she was hurting herself. She locked herself in the bathroom, wouldn’t come out, was kicking the door from the inside.
We ended up having to put her in a behavioral hospital for two weeks; and during that two weeks, I knew I was going to have to do something. So during those two weeks, I was researching to find a place for when she came out, and I was able to find Shepherds Hill Academy.
Now, she is smiling more. She is loving life. Whereas before, she was angry about everything, and she is like a whole different person. She loves God. I mean truly loves God now. Before it was like, “Yeah I know we go to church,” but now she has completely embraced it.
She’s smiling, she’s laughing, and she is actually listening. If I happen to say, “No, I don’t think that’s a good idea,” she thinks about it and realizes, “Yeah; okay, I’m trusting that’s not the right thing to do,” whereas before she would argue with me. And now she is just embracing the authority, and she’s just a whole different person.
