In working with teens for nearly two decades parents will ask me, “Should my teen date?”
While there is a lot to that question, I do have one aspect of teenage dating you should be aware of.
One Aspect of Dating, Transportation
I’ll start with this question:
In today’s sex saturated culture, is it wise to allow our teen daughters to be alone with a teen boy in a car?
You would be surprise at how many parents naively think there is nothing wrong with this.
- Smart phones provide 24/7 connectivity to millions of pornographic sites
- Teens are now having sex by appointment
- Sexting is common place in today’s public schools
- Accentuated sexual appetites and attitudes brought on by today’s media and pornography
The fact is, many of our teen’s authority figures–teachers, coaches, bosses, etc.– accept, expect, and even promote premarital sexual activity.
Honestly, I’m the furthest thing from a legalist; but, allowing a teen boy and girl in the same car together, alone, was a bad idea even back when I was a kid.
Cars, virtually, can be a rolling Holiday Inn.
We exasperate our teens by just letting them be in such a compromising situation.
I have written on why teens should not date, and you can see more below:
