In today’s culture, parents may seem hard pressed to find comfort in using biblical principles in their parenting.
But there is hope. Despite cultural claims to the contrary, properly applying biblical principles remain an effective way to raise your kids.
Believe it or not, Shepherds Hill Academy (SHA) was founded and daily operates by practically applying biblical principles through its Authoritative Community Environment model. Shepherds Hill Academy serves troubled teens between the ages of 12 and 17. In addition, through our Parent Workshops, Parent Conferences, and other family therapeutic activities, we help the entire family grow.
Christian Apologetics Increases Knowledge of Truth
SHA places an emphasis on Christian apologetics. Christian apologetics is crucial for your teen. These studies help kids logically think through the questions of origin, meaning, morality, and destiny.
Few Christian families, churches, or other residential programs stress the importance of adopting a biblical worldview for sustaining life to the degree that it is needed. Even fewer understand the spiritual nature of a human being from the biblical, as well as from the scientific, perspective.
Though most secular theorists would probably label SHA as “old school” or “politically incorrect” because of our biblical emphasis. Our experience has given overwhelming evidence to the fact that not just troubled teens, but all teens, are hungering for the kind of moral absolutes, relationships, and boundaries that are taught in Scripture.
As a result, because of SHA’s apologetic focus, it is not uncommon for a troubled teen’s entire family and extended family members to accept and develop relationships with Christ as well.

A Scientifically Proven Method
For further proof that SHA’s biblical authoritative community environment can work in your home, I’d encourage you to look into the book entitled Hardwired to Connect by The Commission on Children at Risk.
The principles God uses through the Holy Spirit’s work here at SHA are supported by a two year study by the Commission on Children at Risk. The commission was birthed out of the Dartmouth Medical School which produced findings with empirical scientific evidence supporting the very biblical principles by which SHA has operated from the beginning.
The commission put together a book on their findings called, Hardwired to Connect: The New Scientific Case for Authoritative Communities. With science, the book supports all that Scripture endorses through faith and obedience—including a study that produced empirical evidence for a human being’s biological need for a relationship/connection with his/her biological parents.
This same study produced similar evidence for an individual’s need for a relationship/connection with his/her Creator as well! SHA is a proving ground, so to speak, for the effectiveness of an Authoritative Community Model committed to living out the principles of a biblical worldview and submission to God through Christ—especially when it comes to the transformation of teens and families in crisis.
